SU’s Anthropology Department embarks on health collaboration with SIEHS

The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, University of Sindh warmly welcomed a delegation from Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services (SIEHS), Government of Sindh, led by Director Operations Lutaf Ali Mangrio accompanied by Regional Manager, Hyderabad Fareed Ahmed Khaskhely, Regional Manager HR Yasir Raza Memon and other key team members, who took the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Abdul Razaque Channa on his recent appointment as In-Charge Chairperson and began discussions aimed at fostering future collaboration.

Mr. Mangrio elaborated on SIEHS’s mission to deliver world-class emergency care to every community across Sindh, regardless of remoteness, through its free, 24/7 HOPE ambulance service accessible by dialing 1122, while Dr. Channa and Dr. Muhabat Shah extended a gracious welcome and highlighted the potential of employing an interdisciplinary approach—uniting healthcare with cultural insights, community values, and the anthropology of human response in emergencies—as a means to develop culturally informed, sustainable health interventions.

They also celebrated the meaningful contributions of department graduates currently engaged in SIEHS’s community development and Research, Development & Education (RDE) divisions (Sindh Health Services). Both parties agreed to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding, which will include provisions for summer internships, potential job placements for successful interns, joint workshops and seminars, and collaborative research into improving accessible healthcare during emergencies.

Dr. Channa and Mr. Mangrio concluded by affirming that this partnership transcends emergency response—it is about co-creating a future where health, hope and healing are accessible for everyone, every time.
