Sindh Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Muhammad Ali Malkani visited the University of Sindh and held an in-depth meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri at his office on Tuesday. 

The meeting focused on enhancing fisheries research, promoting fish production and advancing sustainable development initiatives across the province.

During the discussion, the provincial minister emphasized the vast potential of Sindh’s water resources—including freshwater bodies, marine waters and the coastal ecosystem. 

He highlighted the urgent need to strengthen fisheries science, modern research and innovation to fully benefit from these valuable resources. 

Mr. Malkani assured the Vice-Chancellor that the Government of Sindh would extend full support for fisheries development, research enhancement and academia-government collaboration.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri briefed the minister on the University’s internationally recognized research achievements, particularly in the fields of fisheries and aquatic sciences. 

He stated that the University of Sindh was home to highly qualified fisheries experts with extensive international experience, enabling the institution to play a key role in sectoral reform and sustainable development.

Registrar Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ali Brohi, Dr. Muhammad Younis Laghari and Dr. Punhal Khan Lashari also attended the meeting.

On the occasion, Dr. Younis and Dr. Punhal Khan presented a detailed proposal to the Minister aimed at strengthening fisheries and aquaculture projects across Sindh. 

The minister appreciated the proposal and assured that it would be reviewed at the relevant forum.

The session concluded with a firm commitment from both sides to expand research partnerships, promote innovation and work jointly for the sustainable growth of fisheries and aquaculture in Sindh.
