Over 900 candidates appear in pre-entry test for admissions to M.Phil, PhD programs at SU

The pre-entrance test for admissions to 34 M.Phil and 28 PhD disciplines for the academic year 2024 has been conducted on Wednesday at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro. A total of 918 candidates participated with 784 aspiring for M.Phil and 134 for PhD programs.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Kalhoro went through the exam centres to review testing process and enquired about the papers from the candidates.

Talking to the official YouTube channel, VC said that different MCQs type question papers were prepared for 34 M.Phil and 28 PhD disciplines, adding that the test conducted was of international standard leaving NTS behind.

It may be noted that as per Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad’s general policy, the pre-entry test for enrollments to M.Phil and PhD programs was taken by Sindh University Testing Centre after establishing four exam centres at the Institute of Mathematics & Computer Science (IMCS), Institute of Commerce & Management (ICM), Institute of English Language & Literature (IELL) and Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET).

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology hosted entrance tests for admissions to M.Phil and PhD programs in Data Science, Electronics, Software Engineering and Telecommunication Engineering, while the Institute of English Language and Literature (IELL) designated for aspirants of admissions to M.Phil & PhD in English and Sindhi.

Similarly, the Institute of Commerce and Management (ICM) was an exam centre, where the test for admissions to M.Phil & PhD in Business Administration, Commerce, Pharmacy, Botany and Zoology was conducted.

The Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMCS) accommodated candidates from all the disciplines of Social Sciences, Education, Islamic Culture and Natural Sciences (excluding Zoology and Botany).

Director Sindh University Testing Center (SUTC) Dr. Aftab Chandio said that all arrangements were made to hold the test smoothly, including the establishment of four examination centers.

He said that the PhD candidates who had already passed the GAT subject test taken by NTS were termed as exempted from taking the university’s entrance test. The test commenced at 10:35 am and lasted for 100 minutes.

The structure of the entrance test included 50% subject-related questions, 20% general English, 15% qualitative reasoning and 15% analytical reasoning. The passing scores are set at 50% for M.Phil admissions and 60% for PhD admissions.

The test results will be announced today in the evening.
