SU's academic council approves key reforms

The 44th meeting of the Academic Council of the University of Sindh was held at Kazi Rafique Hall, Institute of Physics under the chair of Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Emeritus) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro.

The meeting concluded with unanimous approval of critical academic and administrative reforms aimed at enhancing the university's educational and operational standards. 

The session was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellors, campus focal persons, the Registrar Prof. Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jariko, deans of faculties, chairpersons, directors and Prof. (Emeritus) Anwar Ali G. Syed, who contributed to in-depth deliberations.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the endorsement of the HEC Institutional Affiliation Policy-2024, aligning the university with national higher education standards and bolstering its reputation for academic excellence. 

In an exciting development, the council approved the introduction of two new BS degree programs in Accounting and Finance at the Institute of Commerce & and English Language & Literature at the Elsa Kazi/ Old Campus, Hyderabad, which will commence in the 2025 academic year.

The meeting also addressed financial matters, including a revised fee structure for 2025 and the standardization of result announcement dates, streamlining administrative processes across the university. 

In a significant step toward inclusivity, the council adopted a new policy to reserve 2% of seats in public higher educational institutes for religious minorities, ensuring a diverse and welcoming environment for all students.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Directorate of QEC, and the Directorate of Graduate Studies for their efforts in revitalizing the university’s PhD and MPhil programs.

Faculty members were also lauded for securing substantial NRPU and Sindh HEC projects, highlighting their contributions to the university’s research capabilities. 

The meeting, attended by over 110 professors, faculty deans, department chairpersons and directors underscored the council’s strong commitment to propelling the University of Sindh toward greater academic excellence and governance improvements.

Earlier, at the outset of the meeting, a collective benediction for the rest of departed souls at the highest places in paradise was also held.
