Bilawal calls for a digital revolution, restoration of students' union
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pledged to introduce a Digital Bill of Rights and emphasized internet access as a fundamental human right.
He said that students' union was significant at the universities, which should be restored.
He addressing the convocation ceremony at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro on Monday.
Congratulating the graduating students, Bilawal drew from his own academic experiences, describing education as the foundation of a nation's progress.
He encouraged the youth to lead the country's development and to advocate for digital and democratic freedoms.
He highlighted the urgency of tackling climate change, noting the threat posed by melting Himalayan glaciers and the risk of severe floods.
He called for sustainable planning, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and inclusive policies shaped by youth perspectives rather than outdated approaches.
On the digital front, he stressed the importance of ensuring affordable, uninterrupted internet access, pointing out its role in empowering youth and fostering innovation.
“The internet is now a fundamental human right,” he declared. “We need to move beyond censorship and restrictions and I invite you all to join me in drafting a Digital Bill of Rights,” PPP chairman said.
Addressing the graduates, Bilawal urged them to share their insights via social media, pledging to take their demands to Islamabad.
He underscored the importance of collective efforts in achieving solutions, likening the fight for digital rights to the historical struggles for freedom led by past generations.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to fostering a greener, digitally inclusive Pakistan, calling on students to take a proactive role in shaping a progressive future.
“This is your moment to rise, not just as graduates but as leaders of change,” he stated.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah also spoke on the occasion, while the Vice-Chancellor Professor Emeritus Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro briefed the guest about the academic and research activities if the university. Dr Arfana Mallah paid vote of thanks.
On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor of different Universities, MPAs, deans of faculties and other notables wee also present.
Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari accompanied by Sindh Chief Minister visited the University of Sindh, Jamshoro to participate in key events and initiatives aimed at enhancing the university’s infrastructure and environment.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Emeritus) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, Registrar Prof Dr Mushtaque Ali Jariko and other officials warmly welcomed Bilawal at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair and Convention Centre.
During his visit, Bilawal along with the Chief Minister planted a neem tree as a symbolic gesture to promote environmental sustainability on the university campus.
The highlight of the visit was the inauguration of a 2.45 MW solar energy project at the University of Sindh.
