SU VC, former Director PDMA inaugurate newly installed water filtration plant at IBA donated by HHRD

Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalil Ur Rehman Khoumbati formally inaugurated the newly installed water filtration plant at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) along with the former Director (Operations) of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh Imdad Hussain Siddiqui.

The ceremony was held at the Institute of Business Administration on Wednesday, where the water filtration plant donated by Helping Hand for Relief & Development (HHRD) Pakistan was inaugurated.

Among others, Director of IBA Professor Dr Imamuddin Khoso, Registrar Professor Dr Mushtaque Ali Jariko, Regional Manager Sindh of HHRD Ali Muhammad Pathan, Dr Nizamuddin Channa, Dr Intzar Ali Lashari, Dr Tania Mushtaque and Dr Sanober Rehman Shaikh were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil Ur Rehman Khoumbati said that access to clean drinking water was a fundamental necessity and the installation of the water filtration plant at the IBA was a much-needed facility for students and staff.

He acknowledged the efforts of HHRD in addressing this essential requirement and expressed gratitude on behalf of the university administration.

“The provision of clean water is a basic right and this water filtration plant will fulfill an important need of our students,” he said and added that he highly appreciated the contribution of Helping Hand for Relief & Development in ensuring the well-being of SU students by addressing such sorts of vital issues.

Speaking on the occasion, former Director (Operations) of the PDMA Sindh Imdad Hussain Siddiqui highlighted the health benefits of the filtration plant, particularly in preventing waterborne diseases.

He noted that the initiative would serve as a preventive measure, ensuring that students have access to safe drinking water and thereby promoting a healthier campus environment.

“This water filtration plant will function as a crucial element of preventive care for students. By providing access to clean water, we are actively reducing health risks and improving their overall academic experience,” he remarked.

Regional Manager Sindh of HHRD Ali Muhammad Pathan reiterated the organization’s commitment to community welfare and sustainable development projects.

He explained that the filtration plant was designed to eliminate biological contaminants, which will ensure that students received clean and safe drinking water.

“The HHRD water filtration plant will provide water free from biological contamination, thus safeguarding students’ health”, he said and added that clean water was a basic necessity and they were committed to extending similar initiatives across educational institutions in Sindh to benefit students and faculty members alike.

The newly installed water filtration system is expected to cater to hundreds of students, faculty and staff members daily. The plant is equipped with advanced filtration technology that effectively removes harmful contaminants, ensuring that the water meets health and safety standards. This initiative aligns with HHRD’s broader mission of promoting health and hygiene through sustainable interventions in educational institutions and underserved communities.

IBA Students also expressed their gratitude for the initiative and stated that access to safe drinking water on campus would significantly improve their daily lives.

The event concluded with a note of appreciation from the University of Sindh administration, thanking HHRD for its generous contribution and expressing hope for future collaborations to enhance campus facilities.
