SU holds awareness session on federal tax ombudsman’s role

The University of Sindh, Jamshoro organized an awareness session on the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) at the Senate Hall on Monday to familiarize university stakeholders with the functions and redressal mechanisms available to taxpayers under the FTO system.

The event was organized by the University administration in collaboration with the Institute of Business Administration (IBA).

Advisor to the Federal Tax Ombudsman Mohammad Farooq Azam Memon participated as the guest speaker. 

In his address, he briefed the participants on the objectives and mandate of the FTO, explaining that the institution works to ensure justice, transparency and accountability in tax administration.

"The Federal Tax Ombudsman’s office serves as a bridge between taxpayers and the tax machinery", he said. 

"Our goal is to provide quick and fair redressal of complaints related to maladministration by tax authorities,” Mr. Memon maintained.

He further encouraged university officers and faculty members to become aware of the procedures for filing grievances and to promote tax compliance through awareness and education.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Sindh University Prof. Dr. Syed Abdul Sattar Shah highlighted the importance of financial literacy and institutional awareness regarding taxpayers’ rights.

“Sessions like this are essential to educate academia about mechanisms of accountability and transparency in the tax system," he said. 

"The University of Sindh remains committed to promoting civic and fiscal understanding among its stakeholders,” he said.

The organizing committee comprised Director Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Prof. Dr. Imamuddin Khoso and faculty member of IBA Dr. Maria Shaikh.

The session was attended by Deans, Heads of Departments, teachers, university officers, employees and students, who engaged in an interactive discussion with the guest speaker.
