Well-known historian highlights legacy of Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro at Sindh University
The Sindh University History Society (SUHS), in collaboration with the Institute of Sindhology, organized a deeply engaging and well-attended lecture titled “Allah Bux Soomro and other influential personalities in the political history of the Subcontinent” here on Monday.
The event held at the Pir Hussamuddin Rashdi Auditorium brought together scholars, faculty, students, lawyers and members of the intellectual community for an inspiring academic experience.
Presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri, the session featured a keynote address by renowned political scientist and historian Professor (Emeritus) of Political Science at Stockholm University Sweden

Delivering the presidential address, VC Prof. Dr. Fateh Marri underscored the importance of revisiting the lives of forgotten heroes whose sacrifices continue to shape the nation.
“History offers guiding principles for the future, especially when we study personalities who served with sincerity and courage,” he said.
In an insightful lecture, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed shed light on the remarkable contributions of Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro and praised him as a visionary who championed education, social harmony, and pluralism in Sindh.
“His progressive ideals and steadfast dedication to communal peace remain a guiding light for generations,” he said.
Adding a personal dimension to the occasion, Hameer Soomro reflected with emotion on his grandfather’s legacy—highlighting his commitment to education, women’s empowerment and the uplift of Sindh.
The program began with a warm welcome from Chairman of the Department of History Dr. Irfan Ahmed Shaikh, while Assistant Professor and Incharge of SUHS Dr. Bashir Ahmed Jatoi expertly moderated the session.
A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Bashir Ahmed and Fayaz Latif.
The event brought together an impressive lineup of participants, including senior academics such as Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Nanik Ram, Prof. Dr. Mehtab Ali Shah, Prof. Dr. Majeed Chandio and Dr. Imran Ali Sandano, along with many others who engaged actively during the Q&A session.
Former Law Minister Barrister Umar Soomro, Prof. Dr. Arfana Mallah, Amar Sindhu, Dr. Syed Faysal Haider Shah, Dr. Abdul Hameed Soomro, Mr. Ayaz Hyder Mugheri, Prof. Dr. Asghar Ali Burfat, Dr. Rafiq Wassan, Dr. Ronaq Ali Behan, Dr. Abdul Razaque Channa, Mr. Shafqat Qadri, Dr. Asadullah Lashari, Dr. Ayaz Samo and Dr. Raja Dahar Hakro were also present on the occasion.
The efforts of faculty members including Dr. Rehana Kosar, Ms. Asma Mughal and Ms. Habsa Shaikh, along with the SUHS cabinet and student volunteers played a pivotal role in ensuring the event’s success.
