500 male, female students take part in mini marathon held at SU

Sindh University Directorate of Sports organized a mini marathon race on the campus in a bid to encourage healthy lifestyles among student, bring their interest back in sports and promote good social behavior. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri inaugurated the mini marathon at Central Library by cutting the ribbon.

As many as 100 girls and 400 boys from different departments of the university took part in the race, showing a lot of interest in sports and fitness. In the boys' category, Abdullah Nadeem from the Center for Physical Education, Health & Sports Sciences stood first.

Thus, Faique Waseem of Department of Software Engineering clinched second position. Thus, Mir Saqib and Abdul Rafay of the Center for Physical Education, Health & Sports obtained third and fourth positions respectively. Saddam Hussain of the Institute of Commerce & Management and Asmatullah of the Institute of Mathematics & Computer Science secured fifth and sixth positions.

In the girls’ category, Bisma Mahmood of the Center for Physical Education, Health & Sports, Kirat Shaikh of the same center and Rubaisha Durrani of Faculty of Pharmacy stood first, second and third respectively. Thus, Shaheen M. Saleh from the Department of Library Science, Awaiza Nawaz from the Department of Disaster Management and Sobia Mir Munsif of Genetics secured 4th, 5th and 6th positions.

Addressing the participants, Sindh University Professor Dr Fateh Marri said the university administration was giving top priority to sports to ensure that youth remain healthy, active and skilled.

He emphasized that sports not only improve physical health but also play a vital role in mental development, discipline, and fostering a positive mindset, while steering young people away from negative activities.

“The youth of SU possess immense potential and the university is taking practical steps to support them through improved sports infrastructure, organization of competitions and provision of modern facilities”, he said.

He added that events like the mini marathon will boost youth confidence and project a positive image of the university.

He highlighted that under his vision, reforms are being introduced in the sports activities along with new projects and opportunities for youth, enabling them to showcase their talents at national and international levels.

Dr Marri added that the Directorate of Sports and Center for Physical Education and Sports were making comprehensive efforts to promote sports activities across the campus and assured that similar events will continue to be organized in the future. He urged young people to make sports a regular part of their daily lives.

He appreciated the performance of the participants and announced that more sports events will be organized on the campus in a bid to provide youth with greater opportunities for healthy competition and positive engagement.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Abdul Sattar Shah, Registrar Sajid Qayoom Memon, Vice President SU Sports Board Professor Dr Ghulam Ali Buriro, Director Sports Ajved Bhatti, Director campus security Rafique Ali Brohi, Provost Boys Hostels Dr Punhal Khan Lashari, Dr Soniha Aslam, Syndicate members Professor Umeed Ali Rind, Professor Dr Aqeel Ahmed Bhutto, Abdul Rehman Nangraj and many others actively participated in the race to motivate young athletes.
