Former Sindh University VC Mazhar Siddiqui laid to rest amid a somber atmosphere

Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sindh, former provincial and federal secretary and eminent scholar Mazhar ul Haque Siddiqui was laid to rest at the DHA Phase-8 Graveyard on Friday.

The funeral prayer and burial were attended by incumbent Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri, former VC Professor (Emeritus) Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, Dr Shuhabuddin Memon, faculty members, retired civil servants, scholars, students and a large number of admirers and well-wishers of the deceased.

Dr Marri, along with other dignitaries, participated in the funeral prayer of the late Siddiqui and remained present until the burial.

After the interment, he laid a floral wreath on the grave and joined a collective fatiha for the departed soul.

The atmosphere at the graveyard was somber, marked by silence and grief, as colleagues, students and friends struggled to come to terms with the loss of a towering academic and seasoned administrator.

Many present were seen in tears, recalling Siddiqui’s humility, intellectual depth and lifelong commitment to education, public service and the cause of Sindh.

The loss, they said, has left a void that will be difficult to fill.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Marri said: “Mazhar ul Haque Siddiqui was not merely an administrator; he was an institution in himself whose wisdom and integrity guided generations.”

He added that his contributions to higher education, governance and intellectual life will continue to inspire youth and the University of Sindh will always remain proud of his legacy.

Dr Marri further remarked that with his passing, we have lost a compassionate mentor and a principled public servant. "May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah and give patience to the bereaved family," he prayed.

It may be noted that the late Siddiqui was widely respected for his scholarly pursuits, administrative acumen and principled stance in public life. His demise has plunged academic and intellectual circles across the province into mourning.
