A training programme on first aid and safety measures in emergency situations was organised for students of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at the Auditorium of the Institute of Commerce and Management, University of Sindh, by the District committee on Rescue and Safety Rotary International District 3271, in collaboration with the Bureau of STAGS, University of Sindh, and Rescue 1122 Sindh.

Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri (TI), attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Col. S. Sardar Ali Shah, Director of Administration and Training, Rescue 1122 Sindh, and the District Chair, Rescue and Safety, Rotary International District 3271, attended as guests of honour.

Addressing the programme, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri said that such training programmes played an important role in enhancing students’ awareness and capabilities to deal with emergency situations. He said that taking timely action during a sudden emergency, immediately contacting the rescue service and having basic knowledge of first aid were extremely important.

He said that organising such activities at educational institutions enabled students to acquire the necessary knowledge and practical skills to protect themselves and others during emergency situations. The Vice Chancellor further said that every second was precious in an emergency and that people had to remain calm and take necessary action within seconds. Timely action helped minimise the effects of an emergency.

He expressed the hope that the students participating in the training programme would not only benefit from the knowledge they had gained but would also share it with others to create greater awareness. The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the Rotary Club and the Bureau of STAGS for organising the training programme on such an important subject.

In his welcome address, Assistant Governor of Rotary International District 3271 M. Imran Khan welcomed the Vice Chancellor, trainers, faculty members, Rotary members and students. He highlighted the importance of basic first aid, fire safety, rescue and the skills required to deal with emergency situations.

The training session was conducted by Syed Yaseen Shah Rashdi, Station House In-charge and In-charge of the Training Wing, Rescue 1122, District Hyderabad, and paramedic Shahid Ali Moazam. They trained the students on the relevant subject and provided detailed information about the necessary steps to be taken during emergency situations, immediate contact with Rescue 1122 and various first-aid techniques. The participants were also provided with practical training and guidance on dealing with emergencies, basic first aid, fire safety and rescue procedures.

On the occasion, Rotary International presented ajraks and cultural gifts to Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri and Col. S. Sardar Ali Shah.
