SU Senate meets, approves recent 3-year annual budgets

The 35th meeting of the Senate of the University of Sindh Jamshoro was held under the chair of Pro-Chancellor and Provincial Minister Muhammad Ismail Raho representing the Chancellor, in which the budgets of the last three financial years 2020-2021, 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 were approved.

However, the budgets for the financial years 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 were not approved by the highest body of the university and the Vice-Chancellor was made authorized to scrutinize and pore over it in detail before replacing it in the next meeting of the Senate.

The 35th meeting of the SU Senate was held in the Senate Hall, Vice Chancellor's Secretariat, in which the minutes of the 34th meeting of the body held on March 22, 2013 were approved.

In the meeting, the actions taken by the Chief Minister and Chancellor for the establishment of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology in the University of Sindh were also noted.

The house approved a utility allowance of Rs.1000 for the employees from grade 2 to grade 16 and it decided to send the issue of leave encashment to the chancellor for further approval with the reference of the Senate meeting, however, the name of leave encashment was also proposed as Eid allowance.

The meeting approved the medical allowance for grades 2 to 22 on the pattern of other universities, while Umrah/ Hajj leave was fixed 90 days during the entire service for the employees of the University of Sindh, who can get the benefit of the said leave once or at different times in Saudi Arabia.

The house did not endorse the time scheme policy in the next grade of General and X-cadre officers and the said case was again sent to the Syndicate.

The SU Senate approved the revised statutes for the promotion of professor in BPS-21 to meritorious professor BPS-22. Similarly, the establishment of Center for Coastal and Deltaic Studies at Sindh University Campus Thatta was also approved.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also approved for the establishment of a National Incubation Center at the Elsa Kazi Campus of the University of Sindh, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Ignite, an organization of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication, Islamabad, Government of Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro informed the members about the expenses of the university, annual budget, fees, facilities being provided to the students, hostels & transport amenities, and an increase in the grant of the institution by government of Sindh during the last three to four years. He also expressed gratitude to the provincial government and demanded the federal government give a bailout package immediately to help the varsity steer out of the financial crises.

Earlier, the meeting started with the recitation of the Holy Quran, which was graced by Dr. Naimatullah Shah. Later, Dr. Nek Muhammad Shaikh prayed collectively for the forgiveness of professors and employees around 150 in number who passed away from 2013 up to now.

The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Registrar Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Bhutto, while PVC Thatta Campus Dr. Rafique Ahmed Memon, PVC Dadu Campus Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Gachal, HEC representative Dr. Altaf Shaikh, the Deans of various Faculties and as many as 124 members attended the meeting.
