One more milestone comes to SU; Pakistan Baitul Maal offers 50 scholarship worth Rs. 5 million to SU students; the two sides sign MoU
Sindh University, Jamshoro continues its march of progress with an increased momentum; as yet another significant student-friendly development is brought to it by Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal. SU and Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which the latter would be providing the former 50 scholarships to poor-yet-meritorious on-campus students worth 50 million rupees per year.
SU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat and PBM Managing Director, conferred by Government of Pakistan with the status of State Minister; Mr. Aon Abbas Buppi struck the deal formally as they signed the MoU here at the Vice Chancellor’s office yesterday.
The simple-yet elegant signing ceremony was followed head over heels by an awareness and motivational seminar with Mr. Abbas as Keynote Speaker and Dr. Burfat in the Chair at the Senate Hall of the VC Secretariat.
VC-SU Dr. Burfat, in his presidential remarks on the occasion, said that being a premier seat of higher learning in Pakistan SU had been playing active role in benefitting its students by not only imparting quality education at nominal charges; but also by providing them with sufficient financial assistance under multiple program themes round the year.
“The moment I assumed charge as SU Vice Chancellor in January 2017, I began deeply reflecting on giving students’ Financial Aid Office (SFAO) a more productive role, an apt direction and enhanced dynamism. With this key objective in view, I appointed a young, highly qualified and extremely devoted PhD scholar and teacher Dr Fiza Qureshi as its head:” Dr. Burfat asserted.
The Vice Chancellor further said that SFAO had the mandate to eradicate financial strain of students through transparent imbursement and award of scholarships that included HEC Need-based, scholarships, British Council awards, Sindh Government Zakat and Usher Department sponsored incentives, Minorities and scheduled cast scholarships by Government of Pakistan and now by Pakistan Baitul-Maal.
“Till now we have provided scholarships worth 220 million rupees under above streams to as many as 9000 SU students, said the Vice Chancellor.
Dr. Burfat, eulogizing highly motivational content of the presentation by Mr. Abbas, said that the inspirational ideas Mr. Abbas had floated to the student audience were worth billions of rupees.
“Your speech sort of compels me to make a plea to you to visit with us again; address a larger audience of students at SU to galvanize them to patriotic passion and inculcate in them personal virtues that will enable them shine”, said the Vice Chancellor addressing Mr. Aon Abbas.
Keynote Speaker Mr. Aon Abbas said education institutions were lifelines for all nations all over the world; capable of making or marring any nation state; elaborating that if dealt well, education was a boon; if ill handled-a bane.
Addressing the students in a direct manner Mr. Aon said, “I urge upon you to think big, dream big, and do big. Take every single day as a full-scale opportunity; put it to maximum use. Learn to evaluate, reflect, appraise-kill your negative ego. Try doing things you have never done. And the success will be kissing your feet”.
Mr. Abbas said he was glad to be at the campus that imparted education to 35,000 students at one campus at a stretch.
“PM Imran Khan loves youth from Sindh as much as he does youth across other provinces of Pakistan. He wishes you well. He works round the clock far your welfare. He wants you to take off in life”, Mr. Abbas told students in the audience.
Earlier, SFAO administrative officer Qamaruddin Nangraj welcomed guests and shared statistical profile of SU scholarship programs.
Senior politician Haji Muzaffar Shujrah, Member Board of Governors, Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal Hunaid Lakhani, PBM Sindh Provincial Director Dr. Irfan Majeed, PMB Director R&D Zafar Khan Safdar, PMB Director Coordination Shaista Tariq, SU Deans Prof. Dr. Zareen Abbasi, Prof. Dr. Hakim Ali Kanasro, SU Director Finance Dr. Hakim Ali Mahesar, Provost SU Marvi Girls Hostels Ms. Waheeda Baloch and others were present on the occasion.
