
Condolence reference of former Professor Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Lakho held at SU
A condolence reference in memory of renowned historian and former Professor at the Department of History, University of Sindh Jamshoro Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Lakho was held here on Thursday.
The event organized by the Department of History paid rich tributes to the late scholar for his immense contributions to historical research and education, especially in the context of Sindh’s heritage and civilization.
The ceremony was presided over by the Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Hamadullah Kakepoto and was moderated and conducted by Dr. Irfan Ahmed Shaikh, who eloquently guided the proceedings and introduced the speakers.
Distinguished scholars, colleagues and former students of Dr. Lakho gathered to recall his academic excellence, research contributions and humble personality.
Among the speakers were Prof. Dr. Hamadullah Kakepoto, Deedar Hussain Khatti, Dr. Rushdullah Shah Makhnoor Bukhari, Dr. Anas Rajpar, Prof. Dr. Saeed Mangi, Mr. Idress Jatoi, Mr. Wali Muhammad Shah and Mr. Sarfaraz Lakho.
The speakers shared fond memories of working and interacting with Dr. Lakho, praising his commitment to truth, knowledge and scholarship.
They noted that his research on the political and cultural history of Sindh stood as a milestone in regional historiography.
He was widely respected for his meticulous documentation and insightful analysis of Sindh's ancient and modern historical narratives.
Dean Dr. Hamadullah Kakepoto in his presidential address stated that Dr. Lakho was not just a historian but a mentor, guide and a symbol of intellectual integrity.
“His writings, particularly on the socio-political evolution of Sindh, have deeply influenced generations of historians and students,” he remarked.
Dr Irfan Shaikh and other speakers emphasized the need to preserve and publish his unpublished works for the benefit of future researchers.
A large number of faculty members, researchers and students attended the event, reflecting the respect and admiration of Dr. Lakho had earned during his illustrious career.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the departed soul and a collective resolve to continue Dr. Lakho’s mission of promoting historical knowledge and critical inquiry.
