SU Vice-Chancellor Dr Khoumbati inaugurates monsoon plantation drive

The University of Sindh, Jamshoro launched its monsoon plantation drive under its ambitious green campus initiative, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalil‑ur‑Rehman Khoumbati inaugurating the campaign by planting Amaltas (Cassia fistula) and Gul Mohar (Delonix regia) saplings.

Dr. Khoumbati described the campaign as a continuation of the university’s efforts to boost campus biodiversity and mitigate climate change. He noted that in a previous monsoon drive a Miyawaki forest of 10,000 saplings was established in collaboration with OGDCL, featuring at least six‑foot‑tall shade trees and a survival rate exceeding 90 percent.

“The Miyawaki forest will enhance the university’s beauty and improve the environment,” he said.

This year’s initiative aims to plant 5,000 diverse trees across the campus through July and August, reflecting the university’s long‑term vision to foster environmental resilience and sustainable campus greenery.
