
Six-day book fair opens at Sindh University’s Institute of Sindhology
A six-day book fair organized by the Institute of Sindhology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, was inaugurated on Monday by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalil ur Rehman Khoumbati. The fair will continue until September 13, 2025.
On the occasion, Director Institute of Sindhology Dr. Fayaz Latif, former Director Ghulam Murtaza Siyal, Professor Dr. Arfana Mallah, Dr. Noor Muhammad Shah, Dr. Nawab Kaka, Dr. Shazia Pitafi, Dr. Rehana Mallah and many others were present.
The book stalls have been filled with Sindhi, Urdu and English poetry, classical and contemporary literature, novels and a wide range of course and reference books, attracting keen interest from students, faculty and book lovers. Books published by the various Chairs of the University of Sindh were also displayed at the fair and made available for sale at concessional prices, giving readers an opportunity to access valuable academic and cultural works at affordable rates.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalil ur Rehman Khoumbati said books were timeless treasures that enriched minds and nurture souls, adding that the Institute of Sindhology had always played a pivotal role in preserving Sindh’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
He remarked that a book fair was not just a marketplace but a platform for exchanging ideas and promoting dialogue.
He urged the youth to immerse themselves in reading and said it was through books that they will find inspiration for future leadership.
He affirmed that the University of Sindh will continue to support such initiatives that bring together knowledge, culture and community.
Director of the Institute of Sindhology Dr. Fayaz Latif said the event had been designed to rekindle the passion for reading among students and the wider community.
He noted that the diversity of books available reflected the institute’s vision of inclusivity in knowledge.
He added that Sindhi, Urdu and English works had been made available to bridge linguistic and cultural horizons.
He emphasized that the fair provided an opportunity to encourage young writers and showcase their work alongside classical masterpieces.
He reaffirmed that the Institute of Sindhology remains committed to hosting such literary festivals that inspire generations.
A large number of visitors attended the opening day, appreciating the initiative and exploring the diverse collection of books displayed at the fair.
