SU's newly appointed VC Dr Marri pledges to uphold academic excellence, transparency, inclusive governance
Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri has issued his first ever message for the faculty, officers, staff and students, describing his appointment as “a privilege and an honor” to lead this historic and prestigious institution that has stood as a symbol of learning, progress and enlightenment in Sindh for generations.
In his message, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor said that the University of Sindh had produced luminaries in every walk of life and continued to serve as a place of knowledge and culture in Sindh and Pakistan.
Highlighting the university’s core mission, he stated that universities existed for their students, gain distinction through their teachers, earn pride from the success of their graduates and achieve excellence through the quality of the research they produce.
“We will continue to build on this legacy by strengthening these entire key pillars — students, faculty, graduates and research — with renewed dedication and purpose,” he said.
Expressing humility at following in the footsteps of distinguished predecessors such as Allama I.I. Kazi, Mr. Hassnally A. Rahman, and Dr Nabi Bux Baloch, he said he was determined to build upon their legacy.
He assured the university community of his full commitment and support to academic excellence, institutional transparency and inclusive governance.
“We will create and strengthen an environment where creativity, inquiry and innovation are actively encouraged; where faculty are empowered to pursue impactful research; where staff are supported and recognized for their contributions; and where students are nurtured to become responsible citizens and future leaders,” he stated.
Dr Marri reaffirmed his belief that the progress of a university is best achieved through collective wisdom and shared aspirations. He acknowledged the vital role played by each segment of the university community, including teachers, researchers, staff, and students, in shaping the institution’s future.
Announcing an open-door policy, he said that he was committed to creating an accessible system where everyone feels heard and valued. He further revealed that, in the spirit of improved decision-making, an online portal and a suggestion box would soon be launched to enable faculty, staff, and students to share feedback or grievances directly with the Vice Chancellor’s Office.
“This platform will serve as a channel for constructive communication and collective problem-solving. It will reflect our core values of transparency, responsiveness, and institutional accountability — ensuring that every member of the university has a say in shaping its future,” he remarked.
Dr Marri also emphasized that universities do not exist in isolation but are part of the broader social, industrial, and intellectual fabric. “Strengthening our engagement with society, including alumni and industries, will help us stay grounded in real-world needs while reinforcing the relevance and impact of our teaching and research,” he said.
He invited all members of the university to join hands in creating an environment where curiosity is celebrated, merit is upheld, and opportunities are accessible to all. “Let us work with unity, passion, and integrity to advance the standing of the University of Sindh, not only within Pakistan but also as a global center of excellence, diversity, and innovation,” he urged.
Concluding his message, Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri extended his sincere thanks to Professor Dr Khalil-ur-Rehman Khoumbati for leading the university before him and for handing over the charge of Vice Chancellor. He also expressed gratitude to the faculty, officers, staff, and students for their warm welcome and support.
