A two-day Sports Fest 2025 organized by the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro concluded here at the PCB Ground on Thursday.

The closing and prize distribution ceremony was held on the second day with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri as chief guest, while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Thatta Campus) Prof. Dr. Misbah Bibi Qureshi and Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Naheed Kaka were also present on the occasion.

Chairman Department of Anthropology and Archaeology Dr. Abdul Razaque Channa welcomed the guests and highlighted the department’s growing link between academic excellence and social engagement.

He said sports and academics together shaped well-rounded individuals and fostered cooperation and empathy.

Addressing the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri appreciated Dr. Channa’s leadership and the faculty’s dedication termed the department one of the university’s most promising.

He said that the sports promoted mental health, discipline and teamwork and added that “a sound mind flourishes in a sound body.”

Dr. Marri urged students to make use of university services like 1122 Emergency Response and 1124 Telemedicine. He also emphasized the importance of preserving Sindh’s cultural and historical heritage, calling anthropologists and archaeologists “the true guardians of the Indus Civilization.”

Earlier, in the competitions, Rehman Kalhoro’s team (First Year) won the cricket tournament, while Irshad Jamali’s team (Second Year) was runners-up. Sheera and Tahir won men’s badminton, Savera and Saira won women’s badminton and all chess and ludo participants received medals.

The event featured cricket, badminton, chess and ludo competitions in a bid to promote physical fitness, mental agility and healthy competition.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and refreshments, symbolizing unity, enthusiasm and the integration of academic excellence with physical vitality.
