A rally was taken out at the University of Sindh on Monday in solidarity with the Pakistani armed forces and against what speakers termed aggression by the Afghan Taliban and the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The rally, which started from the backside of the Administration Block (AC-II), was led by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Shah, Registrar Sajid Qayoom Memon, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Nanak Ram, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Ghoto, Director Research & Graduate Studies Prof Dr Saima Qayoom Memon and others.

Participants marched towards the main gate, chanting slogans against the Afghan regime, the TTP and what they described as an Indian-Afghan nexus. Passing through the Registrar Office, the rally converted into a demonstration at the main entrance of the Administration Block.

Addressing the participants, Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Shah said the entire university community stood shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He condemned cross-border attacks and termed them a violation of international norms. He said Pakistan had rendered immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and would not allow destabilization efforts to succeed.

He urged the Afghan authorities to prevent their soil from being used for hostile activities against Pakistan. He reaffirmed that the nation remained united against terrorism in all its forms.

Registrar Sajid Qayoom Memon said the armed forces had always safeguarded the country with courage and professionalism. He maintained that any aggression would be met with a firm and befitting response.

He said the people of Pakistan stood firmly behind their army in the face of external and internal threats.

He added that educational institutions also played a role in promoting unity and resilience during challenging times. He reiterated unwavering support for national security institutions.

Sindh University spokesman Dr Nadir Ali Mugheri said the recent incidents reflected a coordinated attempt by the TTP and Afghan Taliban to create instability along the border.

He alleged that there was a nexus between India and the Afghan authorities aimed at opening a second front against Pakistan.

He urged the Afghan government to refrain from allowing cross-border terrorism. He said the teachers, officers and employees of the country’s oldest university would continue to stand by the armed forces.

If required, he added, the university community would launch further peaceful protests to express solidarity with the forces and condemn aggression, recalling that Pakistan had responded decisively to hostility against India in May 2025.

Dr Abdul Razaque Channa referred to the Doha agreement and said the Afghan government was bound to honour its commitments under the pact.

He alleged that continued attacks on Pakistani forces by TTP elements indicated violations of those commitments. He called upon the international community to take notice of the situation and ensure compliance with agreements.

Zulfiqar Ali Rustamani said peace in the region was linked to mutual respect for sovereignty and non-interference.

He urged the Afghan authorities to adopt a responsible approach to regional security. He said the university community desired peace but would always support national defence.

Director of the Institute of Commerce and Management Professor Dr. Hakim Ali Mahesar, Director Bureau of STAGS Ajvaid Ahmed Bhatti, Deputy Registrar Nadeem Butt, Mian Aleem Pasha Mughal, Munawar Rajar, Daud Channar, Mevo Malhi, Muhammad Ali Ghanghro, Arshad Bhatti, Ahmed Ali Kunbhar, Muhammad Fazal Rustamani and others were also present in the rally.

Later, the participants of the demonstration dispersed peacefully.
