Shaikh Ayaz University VC calls on SU counterpart; both discuss AI, emerging education trends
The Vice-Chancellor of Shaikh Ayaz University Shikarpur Professor Dr Naveed Shaikh called on his Sindh University counterpart Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri at his office to discuss matters of mutual academic and research interest.
During the meeting, both vice-chancellors exchanged views on emerging trends in education, with a particular focus on the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) and the increasing presence of robotics in modern workplaces.
They reflected on how rapid technological advancements are reshaping the global job market and redefining the skills required for future generations.
Speaking on the occasion, SU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Marri said that while AI was expected to displace millions of jobs worldwide, it will simultaneously create billions of new opportunities.
He noted that individuals lacking skills in AI and related technologies might face challenges in the evolving job landscape, whereas those equipped with modern knowledge and technical expertise will have greater prospects to work across the globe.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of adapting university curricula to meet contemporary demands, ensuring that students are prepared for a technology-driven world.
Both leaders emphasized the need for innovation in teaching methodologies, research collaborations and capacity building among faculty members.
Deliberating on teaching modes, the vice-chancellors agreed that physical classes remain a blessing for students as they foster direct interaction, critical thinking and a vibrant academic environment.
They noted that while online learning offers flexibility, face-to-face education played a vital role in personality development, social engagement and effective learning outcomes.
They further stressed the importance of balancing traditional and modern approaches to education, encouraging universities to adopt hybrid models that combine the strengths of both systems.
