SU sets up ‘Benazir Bhutto Art Gallery & Knowledge Centre’ featuring rare photos, books; VC Dr Fateh Marri, Mayor Hyderabad Kashif Shoro jointly inaugurate it

 The University of Sindh, Jamshoro, has formally inaugurated the “Benazir Bhutto Art Gallery and Knowledge Center,” established by the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair and Convention Center. The gallery was inaugurated jointly by the Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri and the Mayor of Hyderabad, Kashif Shoro, who cut the ribbon to mark the occasion.

The art gallery features a collection of memorable photographs, rare books, documents and other significant items related to the political, social and historical struggle of the late Benazir Bhutto and the Bhutto family. These materials are expected to serve as an important academic resource for students and researchers interested in politics, history and social awareness.

Following the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor and the Mayor toured the gallery and showed keen interest in the photographs and historical documents highlighting the life and legacy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and her family.

A dignified ceremony was also held on the occasion, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri. In his presidential address, he stated that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto remains a symbol of democracy, courage and struggle not only for Pakistan but for the entire world. He said that the establishment of the art gallery at the university would help educate the younger generation about the country’s political history and democratic values.

The Vice-Chancellor further said that academic institutions had a responsibility to preserve the legacy and struggles of historic personalities and passed them on to future generations. He appreciated the efforts of the Director of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair Dr Rehana Mallah, and her team, stating that their dedication had resulted in the creation of an important academic and cultural center that would inspire students. He expressed hope that such intellectual and cultural initiatives would further promote research, creativity, and critical thinking within the university.

Speaking on the occasion, Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was a courageous and prominent leader in Pakistan’s political history that made immense sacrifices for democracy and the rights of the people. He added that the establishment of such a gallery would enable the younger generation to better understand their history and the struggles of their national leaders.

He further assured that the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation would extend full cooperation to help further improve and strengthen the gallery. The mayor said that the establishment of academic and cultural centers played an important role in promoting awareness, tolerance and creativity in society. He expressed hope that the gallery would emerge as a significant study and research center for students and scholars.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Rehana Mallah, Director of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Chair and Convention Center, thanked the guests and said that the primary objective of the newly established Benazir Bhutto Art Gallery is to promote intellectual awareness among young people, preserve historical knowledge and encourage appreciation for the fine arts so that students may become better acquainted with their history, culture, and the struggles of national leaders.
