Sindh University’s Department of Geography in collaboration with the Green Youth Movement Club marked International Mother Earth Day on Wednesday by organizing an awareness walk and plantation drive to promote environmental responsibility among students and faculty.

Led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri, the walk started from the Central Library and concluded at the Department of Geology, which brought together a large number of teachers and students and employees of the university.

The plantation campaign was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Marri, who said climate change was an urgent global challenge requiring collective action. He noted that rising temperatures were intensifying environmental degradation.

He said that tree plantation was a practical step to restore ecological balance, urging reduction in plastic use due to its hazardous impacts.

Dr Marri highlighted the role of geography in understanding environmental dynamics and shaping sustainable solutions.

The Vice-Chancellor also planted a sapling, underscoring the importance of academic leadership in fostering environmentally conscious practices.

Dr. Sujomal Meghwar said raising public understanding of climate change and geography is vital for human survival, warning that global warming poses a serious threat to humanity.

Students including Ameer Ali, Mahak, Fraz, Rimsha, Dileep, Hashmat and Nazia expressed commitment to environmental protection. They also took part in the plantation drive, terming tree planting a practical step towards a cleaner and healthier future.
