Sindh University’s two-week Independence Day celebrations gain momentum with colourful school event
The two-week-long Independence Day celebrations at the University of Sindh are in full swing, with a colourful and vibrant event organized at the Dr N.A. Baloch Model School, Elsa Kazi Campus, Hyderabad, featuring tree plantation, a food festival, a cake-cutting ceremony and a traditional Mina Bazar.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri (T.I.) chaired the event, which brought together senior university officials, teachers, students and alumni to celebrate the spirit of independence and national unity.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the national flag at the school ground, followed by the national anthem. A cake was then cut in celebration of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, amid enthusiastic participation by students and faculty members.
The Vice-Chancellor subsequently planted a sapling to formally inaugurate the plantation campaign. Academic and administrative heads present on the occasion followed suit and planted saplings, reaffirming the university’s commitment to promoting a greener and healthier environment alongside its Independence Day celebrations.
Dr Marri later visited the food stalls set up by the students and interacted with them. He appreciated the students’ creativity, enthusiasm and efforts, as well as the guidance and support provided by their teachers in making the event successful.
The Vice-Chancellor also visited the Mina Bazaar, where students had displayed clothes, embroidery, handicrafts and other items for sale. He took keen interest in the stalls and encouraged the students to showcase their creative skills and entrepreneurial spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Marri said the Independence Day celebrations were aimed at fostering patriotism, national unity and a sense of responsibility among students while providing them opportunities to demonstrate their academic, creative and social abilities.

Baloch Model School Dr Hameeda Narejo, In-charge Faculty of Law Dr Sardar Ali Shah, Chairman Department of Sociology Professor Dr Ahmed Ali Brohi, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr Lachhman Das Dhomeja, Director Institute of Sindhology Dr Fayaz Latif, Director Finance Zeeshan Memon, Controller of Semester Examinations and Inspector of Colleges Muhammad Mashooque Siddiqui, Dean Faculty of Arts Professor Dr Muhammad Khan Sangi, along with a large number of teachers, alumni and students, attended the event.
It may be noted that the University of Sindh has planned a series of academic, cultural, social and co-curricular activities as part of its two-week-long celebrations, which will continue until August 14 to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day.
