As part of the two-week-long Independence Day celebrations at the University of Sindh, a tree plantation ceremony was held at the Institute of Sindhology under the theme “Green Pakistan, Green Sindh University”. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri (T.I) inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling as chief guest.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, Dr Marri said Independence Day was a national festival that was celebrated across the country with great enthusiasm and fervour. He said Independence Day celebrations had been continuing at the University of Sindh for the past two weeks, featuring seminars, workshops, lectures, quiz competitions, speech and sports competitions, art exhibitions and tree plantation activities.

He said the purpose of the celebrations was not only to express love and devotion to the country and strengthen the spirit of patriotism, but also to promote healthy and environment-friendly activities among students and the wider university community.

He said the plantation ceremony organized by the Institute of Sindhology under the theme “Green Pakistan, Green Sindh University” was an important part of the university’s efforts to make its campus more attractive and greener through the planting of ornamental flowers and fruit-bearing trees.

The vice-chancellor said the Institute of Sindhology was already distinctive for its beautiful flowers and plants, adding that the plantation of new saplings would further enhance its beauty and greenery.

Director Institute of Sindhology Dr Fayaz Latif said the institute attached importance not only to preserving Sindh’s historical, cultural, civilizational and literary heritage but also to environmental conservation. He said the variety of flowers, plants, fruit-bearing trees and other environmentally beneficial trees grown in the premises of Sindhology reflected its commitment to protecting the environment.

He thanked the vice-chancellor and all other guests who participated in the plantation ceremony.
