A tree plantation campaign was launched at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, with the collaboration of the international social organisation Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) under its Youth for Humanity Empowerment Programme (YEP).

University of Sindh Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri (TI) inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling as the chief guest.

As many as 200 flowering and fruit-bearing saplings were planted at different locations in the faculty on the first day of the campaign.

The ceremony was attended by Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali Ghoto; Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, Prof Dr Javed Ahmed Chandio; HHRD-YEP Focal Person Dr Salman Ahmed; Dr Umar Thebo; chairpersons of various departments; and faculty members, including Dr Fauzia Panhwar, Dr Ubed-ur-Rehman Mughal, Dr Muhammad Akram, Dr Imran, Dr Ahmed Shah, Dr Muhammad Aslam, Dr Narendar Kumar, Dr Shoaib Muhammad, Dr Jamila Jamali, Waqas Sabzoi, Shah Bibi and others. A large number of students also participated in the plantation drive and planted various types of saplings.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri said the University of Sindh had been conducting a tree plantation campaign for the past month, during which more than 3,000 saplings had been planted at different locations on the campus. He said the saplings had started growing well due to proper care and maintenance.

He said the world was facing serious environmental challenges, including climate change, while the continuous rise in temperature was a matter of growing concern. In such circumstances, the need for tree plantation had increased considerably, and planting more trees was essential for ensuring a safe and healthy future.

The vice chancellor said trees played a vital role in maintaining ecological balance, keeping the air clean and mitigating the effects of climate change. He said the University of Sindh had always remained at the forefront of efforts to improve the environment.

“Our endeavour is to plant as many saplings as possible, not only to make the university greener but also to create a healthier environment,” he said.

He urged teachers and students to play their full practical role in making the university, their homes and the surrounding environment greener.

Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr Muhammad Ali Ghoto, thanked the vice chancellor and representatives of HHRD for their support and highlighted the importance of tree plantation.

After the plantation drive, the vice chancellor visited various classrooms in the faculty and reviewed the ongoing teaching process.
