Art and music play a vital role in promoting peace, tolerance and cultural harmony, says Dr Marri
Vice Chancellor of the University of Sindh, Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Mari (TI), has said that art and music play a vital role in reflecting the cultural identity of any society, showcasing its creative potential and promoting intellectual development. He said that they could help spread the message of peace and reduce the effects of extremism.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held as part of the two-day music trials organised by the Music Society of the University of Sindh at Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium of the Faculty of Arts, where he attended as the special guest.
Addressing the programme, the Vice Chancellor further said that music was food for the soul and not only provided entertainment but also helped promote creative thinking and confidence among young people through such activities in educational institutions.
He said the purpose of the trials conducted by the Music Society was to provide students with an opportunity to showcase their talent, boost their self-confidence and select a team that could perform at various programmes held at the university.
He said preserving and promoting Sindh’s rich cultural heritage, folk music and fine arts was a collective responsibility. Appreciating the talent of the students who participated in the trials, he said such activities played an important role in promoting peace, tolerance and cultural harmony in society.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the Music Society team and expressed hope that such programmes would help promote healthy activities at the university.
On the occasion, Convener of the Music Society Dr. Nabi Bakhsh Narejo, in his welcome address, thanked the Vice Chancellor for attending the event and for his cooperation and encouragement. He said the purpose of the two-day trials was to provide an opportunity for music talent to showcase itself.
He said students from various departments of the University of Sindh, as well as students of Syed Panah Ali Shah Model School, Jamshoro, and Dr. N.A. Baloch Model School, Hyderabad, had been given an opportunity to showcase their talents in the trials.
He appreciated the cooperation of the Director, STAGS, and members of the Music Committee, saying that efforts would continue to promote art and music through collective teamwork.
On the first day of the music trials, students Amjad Ali, Dolat Rai, Parisa Batool, Noor Fatima Chandio, Umm-e-Farwa, Benazir Dars, Sadaf Dua, Aqsa Pirzado, Sania Haider, Sobia Bhurt, Kamil Dahri, Maheen and others showcased their talent by performing songs in an impressive manner.
Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khan Sangi, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Nanik Ram, Director Bureau of STAGS Ajved Ahmed Bhatti, members of the Music Committee Dr. Saeed Ahmed Mangi and Dr. Punhal Khan Lashari, faculty member of the Institute of Art and Design Nematullah Khilji, renowned singer Ustad Ameer Ali Khan, and a large number of students attended the event.
