Scholarship cheques of Rs 15.96 million distributed among 409 students at SU
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Sindh, Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro, distributed scholarship cheques of Rs 1,59,59,350 to 409 deserving students under two scholarship programs at a ceremony held at the Institute of Commerce and Management on Thursday.
A total of 348 deserving students were awarded cheques amounting to Rs 1,35,72,000 under Need Cum Merit Scholarships. Additionally, as many as 61 students were given away the separate cheques of Rs 2,387,350 under Sindh Educational Endowment Scholarships.
Among others, Pro-Vice Chancellor of SU Main Campus Professor Dr. Abdul Sattar Shah, Dean Faculty of Commerce & Business Administration Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Chandio, Registrar Professor Dr. Mushtaque Ali Jariko, Director MA Kazi Institute of Chemistry Professor Dr. Arfana Begum Mallah, Chairman Zakat Committee of District Jamshoro Pir Muhammad Hassan, Director Institute of Commerce & Management Professor Dr. Hakim Ali Mahesar, Professor Umeed Ali Rind, Director of Campus Security Mr Saqib Buriro and District Zakat Officer Mr Muhammad Sadique Qureshi attended the event in the main auditorium of the ICM.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro emphasized the transparency in the distribution of scholarship funds.
"I have always ensured that the scholarship amount is used solely for the purpose it is intended – the welfare of our students”, he said.
He stated that these funds were meant to support deserving students and that he had distributed them in a timely manner to provide the needed financial relief.
Dr. Kalhoro highlighted the university's significant share of scholarships from the Sindh Higher Education Commission, the federal HEC, the provincial Endowment Fund and the Pakistan Endowment Funds.
He also pointed out that Sindh University has consistently received a substantial portion of the national laptop distribution program, reflecting the institution's growing prominence.
He further added, "We are committed to ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial constraints. Our scholarships, in addition to supporting academic excellence, help cultivate a learning environment where talent and hard work are rewarded," the VC said.
He encouraged students to continue striving for academic success and assured them of the university's continued efforts to secure further financial aid and opportunities for their growth.
He further highlighted the importance of the National Incubation Center (NIC) in Hyderabad, urging students to take full advantage of its resources.
“Students, particularly those who have recently graduated, should actively engage with the NIC to gain market-based training and the essential skills required to excel in today’s competitive landscape”, he maintained
He said that the graduates must throng to the National Incubation Center in Hyderabad to acquire hands-on experience, develop the required skill sets and deepen their understanding of start-ups and entrepreneurship.
He pointed out that the NIC offered invaluable opportunities for students to transform their ideas into successful ventures, with the support of industry experts, mentors and access to technological resources.
"In today’s rapidly evolving job market, it’s not just academic qualifications that matter but also practical skills and the ability to innovate”, he said and added that the National Incubation Center provided a platform where the students could bridge the gap between theory and practice, setting themselves on the path to success in the entrepreneurial world.
