Thousands of youth exhibit love for education and trust in Sindh University as they swarm the varsity to take admission test
It was a stunning sight for one to behold a massive number of young, energetic, zestful boys and girls walking their way up a steep hill on a crisp breezy morning to get to the venue of the Pre-Entry Test of Morning and Evening Bachelor Degree Programs 2019 for admission to various disciplines at Faculty of Arts and suburban buildings. In parallel, another sizeable number of candidates took their test at the Varsity’s respective additional campuses at Badin, Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Thatta, Larkana and Naushahro Feroze.
The test was conducted in all respects by Sindh University Testing Centre (SUTC). As per available details, a total of 23898 aspirants appeared in the test. As per breakup, 17558 male and 4712 female candidates coming up to a total of 22270 candidates took Bachelor Test at the main campus of the Varsity at Jamshoro. However, the number of candidates regarding additional campuses remained as detailed ahead: Laar Campus Badin – 251 (Male: 200, Female: 51) candidates,Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Campus Dadu – 489 (Male: 358, Female: 131) candidates, Thatta – 135 (Male: 113, Female: 22) candidates, Mirpurkhas – 363 (Male: 292, Female: 71) candidates, Larkana – 240 (Male: 191, Female: 49) candidates and Syed Allahndo Shah Campus Naushahro Feroze – 150 (Male: 121, Female: 29) candidates. Approximately 23898 (Male: 18833, Female: 5065) candidates appeared in the test.
Fool-proof security, walk through gates, seating, guidance, test-execution, stationery, water, logistic, medical and other candidate-assistance arrangements were ensured by the university administration on this occasion. For the parents accompanying the candidates, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Convention Centre was specified as a waiting venue for male parents; whereas, Syed Pannah Ali Shah Model School in the Sindh University residential colony was designated as a waiting lounge for the female parents and guardians; and they were imparted with regular updates through a special audio contact mechanism. This was a first-time feature implemented under the specific instructions of Vice-Chancellor, University of Sindh Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat. Efficient parking facilities for vehicles were put in place at various ideally-designated locations close to the venue of the test. For the first time, under the special directives of VC-SU Dr. Burfat a contingent of 150 male and female students from the platform of Bureau of STAGS and Directorate of Students Affairs of the varsity was also prepared to guide the candidates; which turned out to be a highly successful initiative.
The candidates were allowed entrance to the examination centers; upon careful verification of admit cards and other relevant documents after thorough body-frisk by male and female security personnel. A vigilance committee comprising Deans, Members of SU Syndicate, SUTA office bearers; whereas, other relevant officers visited various centers to inspect the arrangements of the test and expressed satisfaction to this effect.
Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat, Vice-Chancellor, University of Sindh, in his formal address, extended warm welcome to all candidates and their parents to the test.
Thereafter, Dr. Burfat said that University of Sindh had become an ISO certified University on account of its improved academic and research standards; adding that it also was included in the top 450 universities in Asia by reputed university ranking institution QS Asia.
“I am glad to inform that University of Sindh has also been able to win this year a financial grant of Rs.1600 million from federal government of Pakistan and Rs.465 million by Government of Sindh. We will utilize these funds to improve facilities, build hostels, and construct a brand new block of Faculty of Social Sciences to enhance research facilities and academic outlook of the University”, Dr. Burfat observed.
The vice chancellor said he was delighted to share that SU celebrated all their national days with immense fervor, zest and zeal; which meant they were very much integrated to their national spirit with their national institutions, with their national interest and with their national agenda. He added that they celebrated all national days on a grand scale-be it Kashmir day on February 5, Pakistan Resolution Day on March 23, Independence Day on August 14, Defense Day on September 6 and Quaid Day on December 25. He further maintained that Pakistan was their highest pride.
“I must inform you candidates that we have introduced online attendance system with 75% mandatory attendance, which means, when selected, you must attend classes regularly to qualify to appear in examinations. We have also launched “Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Award” to top ten students in each department, which means if you work hard your rightful efforts will be due rewarded”, VC asserted.
Earlier, in his interaction with print and electronic media; Dr. Burfat said that the test at SU was the biggest of its kind in the world in the context of admissions to a public sector university. “This is the trust people repose in University of Sindh. This is a matter of special pride for the varsity”, he stressed.
Later, Dr. Burfat, accompanied by Registrar, Deans, Syndicate Members, Director Admissions and other teachers and officers visited the examination centers and expressed satisfaction over arrangements of the test.
SU vice chancellor also appreciated the efforts of all conveners of various committees, concerned teachers, officials and employees, Pakistan Rangers, Sindh Police and Sindh University Security personnel for fool-proof security arrangements; and English, Urdu and Sindhi print as well as electronic media for their presence and subsequent coverage of the test event.
